Melbourne Branch of the International Society for Cultural and Activity Research (ISCAR) and Monash University have pleasure in presenting Dr. Irina Verenikina, Faculty of Education, University of Wollongong at an open lecture “Scientific and everyday concepts: Theory and practice for quality learning”. The lecture was video-recorded on 19th of November in Monash University, Peninsula Campus, Frankston, Australia
Over the past decades the theory of Vygtosky has become increasingly popular as it provides educators with a useful framework to conceptualise a quality intervention. While some concepts of the theory have become widely accepted, others remain relatively unknown. This presentation focuses on the notion of concept formation, which is largely underrepresented in educational research, particularly in relation to adult learning.
La PAH arremete contra la banca y la connivencia política ante los diputados en el Congreso
El presidente de la Comisión de Economía, Santiago Lanzada (PP), llama al orden a Colau después de que ésta calificara de «criminal» al vicesecretario de la Asociación Española de Banca, Javier Rodríguez, y anunciara que serían señalados los diputados que se opusieran a su ILP.
«Estamos ante una estafa porque todo te llevaba a acceder a la vivienda e hipotecarte». Así arrancó Ada Colau, portavoz de la Plataforma de Afectados por la Hipoteca, sus 45 minutos de intervención en la Comisión de Economía del Congreso de los Diputados. «Algunos han hecho un grandísimo negocio, como las administraciones, las inmobiliarias, y no han asumido su responsabilidad, porque el mensaje oficial del Estado era que no había burbuja inmobiliaria», prosiguió.
Han sido 45 minutos en los que el Congreso de los Diputados ha oído por vez la voz de Colau, y ha escuchado sus reproches a la desidia de los políticos durante años frente al problema de los desahucios, y también para que quedara constancia de sus propuestas, avaladas por un millón de firmas en forma de Iniciativa Legislativa Popular.

As a world-leading philosopher, Prof. Dussel’s principal contribution has been to outline a liberating philosophy drawing upon inspiration from liberation theology and the Latin American reality. Highly critical of European ethnocentrism he states that democracy is “not Greek, much less European and not at all liberal.” With respect to the poor he has vigorously argued that it is imperative to look at the poor (not only poverty as such) and accompany them as subjects and as persons in this world and in the Kingdom.
«The Making of Global Capitalism»: Discussion featuring Leo Panitch and Sam Gindin with David Harvey, Duncan Foley and Maliha Safri
The all-encompassing embrace of world capitalism at the beginning of the twenty-first century was generally attributed to the superiority of competitive markets. Globalization had appeared to be the natural outcome of this unstoppable process. But today, with global markets roiling and increasingly reliant on state intervention to stay afloat, it has become clear that markets and states aren’t straightforwardly opposing forces.
In this groundbreaking work, Leo Panitch and Sam Gindin demonstrate the intimate relationship between modern capitalism and the American state, including its role as an “informal empire” promoting free trade and capital movements. Through a powerful historical survey, they show how the US has superintended the restructuring of other states in favor of competitive markets and coordinated the management of increasingly frequent financial crises.

Filósofo marxista, nacionalizado en México. Entre sus libros más conocidos se encuentran: Las ideas estéticas de Marx (1965), Filosofía de la praxis (1967).
OLGA FERNÁNDEZ (Las Villas, Cuba, 1946).
Filósofa y diplomática. Doctora en Filosofía. Fue directora del Instituto de Filosofía de La Habana y ha desempeñado funciones diplomáticas en Washington, Estados Unidos y en Chile.

«The intellectual and cultural history of cultural-historical theory: rethinking the past for the future»: Nikolai Veresov
Nikolai Veresov continues his series of lectures on cultural-historical theory and the genetic research methodology.
This lecture is devoted to the history of Vygotsky’s cultural-historical psychological theory and its contemporary applications. The main emphasis will be given to the stages of development of Vygotsky’s thinking from 1917 to 1934 and to the history of the reception of cultural-historical theory in the Western academic community. The undiscovered potential of cultural historical theory and possible ways of its exploring will be discussed during the lecture. This seminar is hosted by the Child & Community Development Faculty Research Group and the Dialectical Logic Reading Group, Faculty of Education, Monash University, Peninsula campus.
«Introdução à Ontologia de Lukács: Aspectos Históricos e Ontológicos»: Sergio Lessa
Em novembro de 2012 o professor de filosofia Sérgio Lessa ministrou na Universidade de Brasília um curso introdutório à ontologia de György Lukács, um dos mais importantes pensadores do marxismo ocidental. Lukács contribuiu enormemente sobre temas relacionados à reificação do ser social, ao fetichismo, à dialética e ao marxismo como ontologia fundada na categoria do trabalho humano, além de ter sido capaz de elucidar muitas das relações teóricas entre Kant, Hegel e Marx antes mesmo da publicação de vários dos manuscritos de Marx que somente hoje temos acesso. Lukács, ademais escrever sobre ética e estética do ponto de vista da análise marxista, foi ele também responsável por escrever um tratado sobre ontologia desde o início da escravidão até os dias em que morreu. O professor Sérgio Lessa faz uma excelente introdução à obra máxima de Lukács, a Ontologia do Ser Social, e aproveita também para discutir assuntos correlatos. Hija de uno de los grandes propagandistas del nazismo (Hans Ertl, por mucho tiempo se lo conoció como «el fotógrafo de Hitler»), Monika terminó en Bolivia cuando el Tercer Reich se derrumbó y los jerarcas huyeron a los refugios más lejanos del planeta. Se crió en un círculo tan cerrado como racista, en el que brillaban su padre y otro siniestro personaje al que ella llamaba «tío»: Klaus Barbie, «el Carnicero de Lyon».
Pero la joven y bella alemana creció y todo cambió en el final de los años sesenta. Y la muerte de Ernesto Guevara en la selva boliviana significó el empujón final: rompió con sus raíces y en un giro copernicano terminó militando en las filas del Ejército de Liberación Nacional, el grupo guerrillero creado por el mismísimo Che.
